This App Makes Your Smartphone a Hotel TV Remote

There is a new application for smartphones that can turn their mobiles into a hotel remote control. This is very advantageous because you do not need to look for that remote always and you do not share virus with other guests. LodgeNet is the company that produced the app which gives entertainment to more at least 85% of United States’ hotel industry. The application was not developed for entertainment whether at your own home or while in the road. This current trend is not acceptable for LodgeNet.

The application can be downloaded in Android and iOS phones for free. When you are in a hotel room and you happen to visit LodgeNet screen, they will prompt you if you want to download the specific app. This apps works in any room provided it avails the service. You just need to pair it to the TV on the hotel room. You may need to do this over and over again as you go to different hotels.

The app is very easy, convenient and spontaneous to use. In fact it is easier to use than using the hotel room; you can browse through the channels easily. It also has the benefit of navigating movies that are on-demand and paying your movie purchases either through credit card or to your room charges.

Aside from these entertaining features, the app has another feature that informs you about the hotel and gives you details and information about the place. It lets you request for room service or spa reservations. The third feature of the said app is that it provides you more information about the hotel’s events, sights and restaurants.

LodgeNet mobile app was launched last January 30 and is currently connected to more than 1.7 million rooms. Throughout the year, it is expected to grow more approximately for another 1 million rooms. This app is truly beneficial for those people who travel around frequently. The company is enhancing their features every now and then and is continuously connecting to more rooms worldwide to provide customers enough information that they need regarding the hotel.

Android May Have More Users, But iPhone Has More Admirers

You hear the numbers back and forth all the time. Android has this much market share. iPhone has that much. It is not always clear what all of this means. Just because Android has more users, does that mean it is more popular? One thing to think about when considering the question is availability. Android is available on exponentially more networks, and those handsets tend to be much cheaper. So, is Android more popular?

According to one study, the answer is a definite no. Analysis firm, Millennial Media has released a study that would suggest that the iPhone is the most desired handset. It is not difficult to understand why this would happen to be the case. The iPhone exists as a singular user experience. Save for technological improvements of newer iPhones, each time someone uses an iPhone, they are getting the same experience. It’s innovative design and user interface has proven to be a crowdpleaser from the very beginning.

I have used different Android handsets and the user experience can go from okay to infuriating, depending on the phone you happen to be using. Other people are likely feeling the exact same frustration, and this can contribute to an underwhelming feeling when using Android. Droid lovers often point out its open source structure as a strength, but that is only partially true. Android users also have to deal with a whole host of problems when it comes to hacking.

All of this amounts to users generally preferring iPhones over just about any other phone on the market. Notice I have not even mentioned Blackberry or Windows Phone. Those mobile environments don’t even warrant a mention except at the end of an article. In the end, it is all about the iPhone for most mobile phone users. In a nutshell, it is iPhone or nothing.

The Legacy of a Great Visionary

We were all saddened when Steve Jobs finally lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. People across the globe grieved together with his family over the death of an undeniable technological visionary that we had come to feel close to. Even if we had never met him. But, Steve’s brilliance remains in the hearts of many people because of his essential contributions to technological advancements we enjoy today. Even more important, his legacy is that he brought technology to another level.

Steve Jobs has been the bedrock of success of the company he co-founded, which is Apple. As we know, Apple is primarily known for its inventions such as iMac, iPod, Ipad, and many more. They continue to produce products that improve our quality of life. His intelligence indeed had no equal.

Still, part of his legacy is the story of the humble beginning of Apple. It is said that he started off his commitment of innovating technology in the garage of his home where today’s billion-dollar company Apple was founded. Surprisingly, his story continues to inspire others to keep going on in life no matter how hard it gets.

Furthermore, one single device that we regard the most important part of modern day computing is the mouse. Without his relentless curiosity for innovations, we could have never experienced the convenience of using computers and browsing over the web. Definitely, his intelligence and creative mind is comparable to that of Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, and Thomas Edison whose discoveries played a crucial role in modern times.

Being the man behind all of the Apple gadgets, Jobs has proven himself as an emblem of a real visionary, a man who defied imagination, and most especially a role model that is worth emulating.

Transforming technology could be the greatest legacy of the great Steve Jobs. He started a spark for a greater flame of more possible technological advancements in the future.

Features of Ergonomic Chairs

Some people spend a great deal of time sitting in a chair, a position that normally adds stress to the spine. So to avoid developing back pain problems, it is important to have a chair that’s ergonomic and supports the lower back and promotes good posture.

There are various types of ergonomic chairs available on the market. No one particular type of ergonomic chair is necessarily the best, but there are some things that are very important to look for in a good ergonomically made chair.  These chairs will allow the user to make the chair work well for his or her individual needs.

The features that a good ergonomic chair should possess include;

Seat height: The seat height of the chairs should be easily adjustable. A seat height that ranges from 16 to 21 inches off the floor should work for most individuals. This will allow the user to keep their feet flat on the floor and thighs horizontal and their arms with the height of the desk.

Lumbar support: Lower back support in these chairs is very important. The region of lumbar spine has an inward curve, and sitting for long periods without any support for this curve tends to create strains in the lower structures of the spine.

Backrest: Ergonomic chair’s backrest should be 12 to 19 inches wide. The backrest should be able to support the spine with special attention paid to support the lumbar region.

Seat materials: The material on the ergonomic chairs should have enough padding to be comfortable to sit for extended periods of time.

Arm rest: The ergonomic chair’s armrest should allow the user’s arms to set comfortably and shoulders be relaxed.

Swivel: Any ergonomic chair should rotate easily so the user can reach different areas without straining

There are different types on ergonomic chairs available on the market that include; kneeling ergonomic chairs, saddle ergonomic chairs, exercise ball ergonomic chairs, recliner chairs etc. The use of these types of chairs can be beneficial for some individuals suffering from lower back pain.

Spotify Experiences An American Tradition

After much delay, European music streaming company, Spotify, has finally come to America! It is just in time, too. The streaming music landscape in this country leaves a lot to be desired. They are going to be providing an enormous catalog of music to stream to your computer and mobile devices. They have been in business successfully for 3 years in Europe. With the record labels on board, how could there possibly be any trouble?

Apparently, they have now run into an American tradition: getting sued. PacketVideo, a hold over from the dot com bust of the late ’90′s – early 2000′s, is suing Spotify for infringing on their patents for streaming music. At first blush, it looks like a reasonable claim. They were an early pioneer in the realm of streaming music. However, you must look into the details to see it is a sham. The patent claim is for a “Device for the distribution of music information in digital form.” That sounds a bit broad to me. You can read the rest of the claim over at Techdirt to get the full details of the patent filing.

You know how it goes in this country. The patent laws overwhelmingly support vague, over-broad patents that could potentially cover just about anything. The biggest problem with this is how it affects innovation. People tend to have a problem with getting sued every time they come up with a good idea. Patents that are vague tend to cause problems for everyone. It is as if I came up with the idea for rising dough, so I go out and sue anyone who makes bread. This just proves the old axiom that states: “If you can’t innovate, then litigate.” I wish Spotify good luck, and to be sure to stay out of the U.S. court in the Eastern District of Texas.

We’re Back!

I’m going to be blogging a lot about stuff related to technology, social media and the internet. Today, I’ll start off talking a little about social media and technology. Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook are the 3 services I use. I don’t think social media services would have exploded in popularity without smartphones becoming so popular.

Smartphones used to be the domain of business users only. Blackberry, while popular, wasn’t very consumer friendly with it’s clunky interface. Microsoft was attempting to make inroads, but their choice to cram a desktop OS into a phone made Windows Mobile virtually unusable. Palm, the pioneer of PDA’s, hadn’t updated their Treo OS in years, and it’s age was showing.

Then came the iPhone. It changed everything. Suddenly, accessing the internet on a mobile phone was fun and easy. The iPhone’s OS was elegant and easy to master. Afterwards, a slew of copycats and so-called “iPhone Killers” were released. Google eventually entered the fray with their Android mobile OS.

These newer phones gave smartphones more mass appeal, and developers eagerly created applications for the mobile devices. This made it easy for people to connect via Facebook or Twitter wherever they happened to be. Those services have since seen exponential growth. I don’t think we would have seen that without recent technological innovation.
